Preguntas más frecuentes
I can't come every week, can I still come to classes?
Yes you can, we allow students that can't commit to coming every week the opportunity to pay as you go. See our Costs section for more info.
How much is your course and how long does it last for?
Our eight week course costs £45 if paid online in advance using our secure payment service. You are also very welcome to pay on the night of the first class, however the cost will be £55.
I'd really like to learn but I'm a bit nervous, is the class scary!?
Not at all and we totally get this, starting anything new can be a little scary! We are a friendly bunch that like to laugh and joke in class. We're here to help you learn something practical but also to have fun doing it. The class has a very diverse group of ladies and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. We are regularly told by our students that they have tried other classes before but have left as they didn't feel comfortable, but with us they feel right at home! If you're feeling a little nervous or shy then please get in touch and we will be happy to talk to you about any concerns. You're also welcome to bring a friend or family member to watch for the first session if that makes you feel more at ease.
What should I wear?
We advise that students wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. As we are looking at physical techniques clothes may get tugged about a bit and may also get a bit grubby from the floor. Please bear this in mind when selecting what to wear.
How long are the classes?
Each class is 1.5 hours long which includes a instructor lead warm up and cool down sessions.
What can I expect to be doing during a class?
Pop over to our "What to expect section" and have a read.
Will I get hurt?
Nope, we've never had a serious injury in any of our classes! Every care is taken to ensure that students are practicing safely and have a good enough understanding of how to avoid injury. Myself personally, in the 10 odd years I've been practicing martial arts, I've only ever had one injury, which was quite minor, and even that was my own fault. The emphasis of our classes is how to keep yourself safe and as such injuries are extremely rare, especially compared to competitive sports for example
Do you train with weapons?
Yes we do look at both protecting yourself from and disarming people with weapons. We also look at turning every day objects into weapons you can use to defend yourself. All of this training is done under close supervision and safe training weapons are used
Do I need to be physically fit and / or strong?
No not at all. The great thing about the skills we will teach you is that it is about using what you have to your advantage. If you've looked at any of the images you'll notice that Dave, one of the instructors has no fingers on his left hand, yet he is more than capable of defending himself from the biggest and strongest attackers who have all their fingers.
I have a pre-existing injury and / or illness, can I still participate in classes?
It's quite possible that you will be able to train in the class fine. Please contact us (info@ReadingWomensSelfDefence.com) first before coming to class. What we will probably say is come down to a class and watch for the first session. This will give you an opportunity to see if you feel you will be able to participate safely and also give us a chance to have a chat with you and asses if we feel training will be safe for you.
